We Didn’t Mismanage APC Funds – Oyegun

John-Odigie-Oyegun-1

Some members of the party, Independent learnt had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into the finances of the party which they alleged was mismanaged by the Odigie-Oyegun led APC leadership.
Speaking with Independent, a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), who spoke on condition of anonymity, said given the millions of naira generated by the party in the run-up to the 2015 general elections through the sale of nomination forms nationwide, it is too early for the party to be talking of paucity of funds to pay salaries and meet all other financial obligations if the funds were judiciously managed While alleging that the party leadership shared the money among themselves he said that on many occasions, the party leadership had applied to President Muhammadu Buhari for financial bail-out “but the president declined assistance until he sees a comprehensive report of how the monies generated by the party were spent”.
“It is a shame that as a ruling party, we are talking of inability to pay salaries, black out at the national secretariat and other issues. It is due to mismanagement on the part of the leaders of the party. We have called on the EFCC to come and look at the books of the party and see if anything is missing”.
Although the party leadership kept denying it, it was learnt that the mid-term convention of the APC scheduled for April 29 had to be shelved due to paucity of funds.
Though he admitted that the party has had challenges as regards meeting its statutory duties, Odigie-Oyegun described the petitioners as fake party men. While claiming that the party has a detailed account of how its funds are disbursed, he also challenged the petitioners to come and pick up a copy of the party’s audited accounts.
