APC Kicks As Accord Party Wins Delta Assembly Bye-Election



Despite pockets of violence that characterised the bye-election held in six wards of Warri South Constituency 1 in the Delta State House of Assembly (DSHA), Accord Party candidate, Princess Sola Daibo, was on Wednesday declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The election took place in Ubeji, Obodo and Omadino (Ward 1), Ode Itsekiri (ward 2), Ogunnu, Ekorede Urhobo (ward 3), Uguwangbue, Ekorede Itsekiri (ward 4), GRA (ward 5) and Bowen Avenue (ward 6).

Daibo will now take the place of late Mrs. Omawumi Beatrice Udoh of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who died last year.
In Omodibo ward, Accord Party scored 107191, APC, 91, Bowen Ward, Accord 605, APC, 244, Ekurede/Ubuwague, Accord, 749, APC, 294, Okere Ward, Accord 526, APC, 409, Ogunu/Ekurede Urhobo, Accord, 492, APC, 308, and Ode Itshekiri, Accord, 1811, APC, 381.
Announcing the result mid night, Dr. Olatunbosn Odunsanya, of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Daibo scored 5546 votes while Stanley Emiko of the APC, scored 2010 votes and Mr. Ojere Edeyebo of the PDP scored 183 votes.
The returning officer described the election as credible and devoid of violence, saying it was better than previous elections in the area as the result was not delayed.

Apart from the Itshekiri Youths for Justice and Equity (IYJE) who took over the residence of Daibo in jubilation, elders and family friends of the royal family in Iwere land were in high spirit, with victory songs and royal ballards, saying that the victory has brought another glory to them.
As at the time of filing the report commercial activities in the constituency have not totally picked up as a result of the jubilation on the parts of the Accor Party loyalists and apprehension on the part of the APC loyalists.
The APC loyalists complained of cases of malfunctioning card readers at GRA ward 5, unit 10, Mowoe Primary School, as 10:05a.m, as well as Bowen ward 6, unit 10.
