FG spends N6b on N-Power beneficiaries monthly – Buhari’s aide

A sum of N6 billion is being spent monthly by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on the 200,000 beneficiaries of the N-Power scheme.
Senior Special Assistant on Job Creation and Youth Employment to the president, Afolabi Imoukhuede, gave this disclosure, in Abeokuta, on Thursday, during an interactive workshop, organised for the Ogun State N-Power volunteer corps.
In attendance were the Focal Person for N-Power and state Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Leke Adewolu, and other senior officials of the monitoring team.
Imoukhuede, who announced that the federal government was set to spend additional N18billion on 300,000 unemployed graduates that would be hired in May, noted the current administration was committed to addressing the challenges of unemployment in the country.
He added that a total of 5,799 beneficiaries were selected in Ogun State out of 13,866 graduates that applied for the scheme.
Meanwhile, the SSA, assured that problems identified with payment schedules, including discrepancies in account names and wrong bank verification number (BVN), would soon be sorted out urging the beneficiaries to be disciplined and always pay attention to details as well as authorities.
Imoukhuede, however, said beneficiaries of  the scheme would not be absorbed into the civil service mainstream stressing “the scheme was designed with exit permanence strategy”, and tasked the beneficiaries to be open to opportunities that would spur them to self-sufficiency in order to add value to the nation’s economic development.
In his remarks, the Focal Person for N-Power and state Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Leke Adewolu, charged the volunteers to be good ambassadors of the state and maximise the opportunities inherent in the scheme.
