Nigerians pretend to be saints’ — IGoDye defends AY over BBNaija joke

Comedian, Francis Agoda, has defended his colleague Ayo Makun over the criticism of his Big Brother Naija joke.
During his AY Live show, the comedian joked about the sexual assault controversy involving Kemen and TBoss, ex-Big Brother Naija housemates.
Subsequently, enraged Nigerians took to social media to lambast him for joking about a sensitive topic.
The comedian has since apologised and also explained the inspiration behind the joke.
Reacting to the matter, Agoda popularly known as IGoDye said comedians are allowed to create humour out of tragedy.
He said many Nigerians pretend to be saints when in actual fact, they are not.
“The effect of any joke is to evoke laughter which is a practice embraced worldwide,” he wrote.
“The idea of comedy is to create humour out of tragedy. Our problem in this country is that we act like saints in the eyes of those who still pretend to be saints.
“The joke on BBNaija Housemates by @aycomedian was just to entertain without any form of malice.
“So I wonder why we go out to make issues out of none issues when we are bedevilled with various challenges that need attention.”
