Ikhana quits as Kano Pillars coach, cites health issues


Former African coach of the year, Kadiri Ikhana, has announced his departure from Kano Pillars Football Club due to “health issues”.

Ikhana’s last assignment with Kano Pillars was a 0-1 home loss to Akwa United.
The coach was attacked after the match and he’s currently receiving medical treatment in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Announcing his resignation on Sunday, Ikhana said he is no longer strong enough to stand the rigours of the job.
He cited the injury sustained during the attack as motivation for his decision.
He noted that the aftermath of comprehensive medical examinations led him to the realisation that the time to quit the game had arrived.
Ikhana said it was unfortunate that he was not able to fulfil his wish to quit after the close of the season.
He wished the club the best as the season progresses.
The Edo-born coach has won laurels both at the continental and local level.
