Senate Holds Valedictory Session For Late Adeleke Today

Abuja – The Senate, will today, hold a special session in honour of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke where encomia are expected to be showered on him by his colleagues.
As is customary with the parliament, yesterday’s session was rounded off quickly when a motion to that effect was moved by Senator Ahmed Lawan, the Leader of the Senate, who came under Order 43.
Senator Phillips Aduda seconded the motion.
Senator Lawan in the motion, announced the death of Senator Adeleke whom he described as a very likable person who had touched lives of people positively.
He urged the Senate to suspend plenary in accordance with its custom while a special session in honour of the late senator should be held in his honour today.
“Mr president, distinguished colleagues it is the practice and convention of this Senate and indeed the National Assembly to always show respect and honour our dear colleagues by adjourning our plenary.
“I will therefore move that because of the death of our colleague which took place early morning on Sunday and I will move a motion that this Senate observes a one minute silence and thereafter adjourned till tomorrow, the 26th of April, 2017.
Tomorrow by the grace of God our colleagues will have the opportunity to pay tributes to our departed colleague in a valedictory session. I therefore move that we observed a one minute silence and then adjourn thereafter,” he said.
Upon the motion being seconded by Senator Phillips Aduda, it was adopted through a voice vote without any dissent.
The mood of the Senate was gloomy as most of the senators were seen wearing long faces as they walked into the Senate chambers, while the usual throwing of banter which the senators are known for, was apparently missing.
