‘Police plan fresh raid on Goje’s residences’
Police operatives are planning another raid on the residences of Senator Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) in Abuja and his home state, sources close to the lawmaker said yesterday.
The sources said the senator was “facing political persecution from overzealous opponents from within.”
He said the raid against Goje was coming at a time when he should be concentrating on his job as the Chairman, Senate Appropriation Committee to fast track the passage of the 2017 budget.
But the police said last night that they were not aware of the planned raid.
Spokesperson of the Force Headquarters, Jimoh Moshood, said he was not aware of anything like that when Daily Trust contacted him to comment on the matter.
“I am not aware of the planned raid,” Moshood, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said.
One of the sources said following the raid on Goje’s residence in Abuja few days ago without finding anything against him, the police were now determined to find incriminating items that can be used against the senator.
“It is surprising that the police could not find anything incriminating against the senator despite searching his residence for over 4 hours. They believe he should have something in any of his houses, such as unauthorised ammunitions or even cash that exceeded the legal limit that can be used against him,” he said.
A family member of the senator, who witnessed the previous raid, said the relentless attention on Goje was politically motivated.
On April 20, men of the Nigerian Police Force raided the residence of Goje in Abuja where they reportedly recovered $19,000 (N5.8 million), 4,000 Saudi riyals (N326, 000) and N18 million.
