Jam of the Day: Willem Botha – Soen En Vergeet



Willem Botha is back! It’s been close to five years since the Afrikaans pop star released an album and now, Willem dropped the upcoming album’s title track ‘Soen En Vergeet’ as the lead single off the project. The album, which drops everywhere this Friday, features 14 brand new tracks from the pop star and is expected to become another top-seller for the singer.
The new single sees the singer continue his quest for pop domination. Willem reminds us why we fell in love with his music since his debut on Afrikaanse Idols back in 2006. The mid-tempo pop track showcases Willem’s strong vocal where he gives a smooth, crisp delivery. The song is written beautifully and the message is one many of us can relate to. The singer also shot a beautiful video for the track. The story tells a love story with Getroud Met Rugby actors Sean van Noordwyk and Anlia van Rensburg in the lead roles. Willem, who has a massive love for horses, also shows off his love for the majestic animal in the clip.
While a strong lead single, I do think that Willem played it a little too safe with the sound he chose to explore so I’m hoping the singer has a few tricks up his sleeve on some of the other tracks when the album drops on Friday. Naturally, Willem is excited for the world to finally hear the music he has been working on. “I had five years to write these songs,” he says. “70% of the album I wrote myself. Over the past five years I have grown in both age and experience. This album is very personal and definitely put myself out there.” The album is available for pre-order now for only R89.99.
