Judge wants LG polls conducted in 90 days

High Court in Awka, presided over by Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi, has ordered the State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to conduct local government elections within 90 days.
Umeadi gave the order in his judgment on a suit brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its 21 chairmanship candidates challenging the constitution of caretaker committees to run the affairs of the 21 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.
The party and its 21 local government chairmanship candidates, representing all the councils, in the suit titled: A/182/2016: APC & Others vs. ANSIEC and Others, had prayed the court to declare the constitution of caretaker committees illegal.
The respondents in the suit are the state electoral umpire, its chairman, the Attorney General of Anambra State, Governor Willie Obiano, and Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Anambra State House of Assembly and the Speaker.
