Nwuche advocates part time politics in Nigeria
A former deputy
speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, has called on
the political class to make politics a part time business.
Nwuche, who spoke to the Daily Trust
yesterday in Port Harcourt, said the desperation with which politics was
being played in Nigeria prompted his call to make it a part time
business.
He said for pecuniary gains, Nigerian
politicians had rendered politics a do or die affair, adding that
selfishness had made politicians to give little attention to
developmental issues.
“I want to advise politicians to get a
second address. What I mean is that politicians should have other things
doing; things they would fall back on so that the desperation attached
to politics will be reduced.
“They must reduce desperation and put
efforts at the development of the nation and allow the electoral process
to run smoothly; we should not play politics to destroy others,” he
stressed.
On the hiccups recorded in the ongoing
continuous voters’ registration exercise, the former deputy speaker
urged prospective registrants to be patient saying that the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) will address the issues.
