Court stays proceedings in Rep Jibrin’s suit

Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the suit by former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, challenging his suspension.
Justice John Tsoho, yesterday, ruled that the suit would be adjourned pending the outcome of the application before the Appeal Court in Abuja, explaining that the decision was to avoid rendering the appeal irrelevant.
“If the appeal succeeds, they become parties in the same suit, therefore the carpet should not be swept from under their feet,” he said.
He consequently upheld the application by Ossai Nicholas Ossai, House of Reps Committee Chairman on Ethics and Privileges, and Oker-Jev Emmanuel Yisa, Chairman, Rules and Business Committee of the House, seeking for stay of proceedings following the appeal before the Appeal Court, Abuja.
The two lawmakers had challenged the court’s ruling on April 13 dismissing their application to join the suit as interested parties.
