Karu residents task AMAC on refuse evacuation

Members of Old
Karu Muslims Community Association (OKAMUCA) Abuja, have urged the
Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to evacuate heaps of refuse in the
area.
Speaking with our reporter, one of the
members, Malam Jibril Muhammed Hassan said, “We commend the effort of
Hon Abdullahi Adamu Candido in evacuating the refuse in Karu but we
still need the heaps of refuse near the Muslim graveyard to be
evacuated.
“The dumping site has become a serious
problem to our community. The heaps have blocked access to the burial
ground and we are always faced with difficulties before we gain entrance
to bury a corpse if the need arises.
“Therefore, we call on the municipal
government to come to our aid. It is for the safety of the community; we
could contract disease from there,” he said.
He said the “chairman should supervise those awarded with the contract to ensure effectiveness and project acceleration.”
Mallam Usman Sani, a resident of Karu condemned the attitude of the residents who defecate openly at the graveyard.
He said, “ A graveyard must be secure
and remain clean. We have no other home, this is our final home and it
was high time we preached to ourselves that we will all one day end up
in the graveyard.”
Another resident, Ibrahim Yusuf,
expressed sadness over the issue, he said, “We are not happy with the
way government has handled something that affects our health.”
He said the present government should emulate the previous government by making refuse evacuation a top priority in AMAC.
