Enugu 2019 uncertain, says APC chair
Chairman, Enugu
State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ben Nwoye, has
said that the 2019 in the state is uncertain. He said the atmosphere is
“pregnant,” but nobody knows what it would give birth to.
Nwoye said this during a brief telephone
chat with the Daily Trust in the wake of last Saturday’s reported
attack on APC supporters during a rally in Ezeagu Local Government Area
of the state, which was allegedly carried out by persons suspected to be
working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I don’t know what the 2019 elections would be like in Enugu State.” he said.
Daily Trust recalled that political
violence was last Saturday averted by security men at Ezeagu Local
Government Area, when thugs allegedly working for the state Deputy
Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, who is from the area, allegedly disrupted
the APC rally.
It was gathered that members of the APC
in the state, led by Nwoye, alongside the South East National Vice
Chairman, Emma Enukwu and others had assembled at Eke Ozom market
square, in Aguobuwa community to officially admit into its fold, a
notable businessman, Mr Kingsley Ubenyi, when some miscreants
reportedly stormed the venue and disrupted the ceremony.
A source that pleaded anonymity alleged
that Ezeilo had few days to the event told the chairman of the Caretaker
Committee of the local government area, Chief Chukwudi Ezinwa, to make
sure that the event did not hold, that it was a slight on her person for
APC to be making inroad in the locality.
But Ezinwa denied being used by any top politician from the area to disrupt the APC ceremony.
