Ondo APC crisis deepens as party chair petitions police

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has deepened following the decision of the suspended party chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, to invite the police over alleged unlawful invasion, sealing off and looting of the party secretariat.
Kekemeke, who was suspended last Friday by some members of the party executive who also constituted a three-man panel headed by the Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, to investigate him, described the move as a huge joke.
He was said to have been removed for allegedly failing to discharge his responsibilities, while his deputy, Ade Adetimehin, was asked to act in his place.
The probe committee, according to Adesanya, had swung into action immediately.
Speaking with Daily Trust yesterday in a telephone interview, Adesanya said the move was to restore peace and normalcy to the party. He said they were already working from the secretariat.
But in a swift move, Kekemeke, who insisted that he remained the only party chairman in the state, had gone to the police armed with a petition, alleging illegal invasion of the secretariat.
In the letter which he signed and addressed to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Kekemeke said the invasion was criminal, unlawful and illegal, urging the police to wade into the matter to prevent looting and vandalism.
The embattled chairman had in a statement issued in Akure at the weekend, described his suspension as a remote-controlled, illegal and morally reprehensible conduct of some rancorous elements in the state executive.
It would be recalled that the SEC had announced that it had passed a vote of no confidence on Kekemeke last Friday.
The crisis rocking the party started shortly after the 2016 primary election.
