The Managing Director, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Engr. Ernest Mupwaya, has commissioned a training facility valued at N10 million in Abuja to improve the service efficiency of its 2,700 staff.
Engr. Mupwaya, after commissioning the AEDC Learning Centre, said the facility would help the Distribution Company (DisCo) to reposition the staff to meet customers’ expectations.
AEDC justified getting the facility which cost about N10m annually rather than spending huge sums renting hotels to hold its many training programmes.
“On the cost of setting up this facility, per annum we are paying about N10m. Before this, we were hiring hotel premises for this kind of training. Out of our employee base of 2,700, we want at least each one of them to pass through some kind of transformation course so that they can be aligned to meet our customer expectation,” Mupwaya noted.
On the company’s annual performance improvement target, the AEDC boss said the Aggregate Technical, Collection and Commercial (ATC&C) losses when the DisCo took over in 2013 was 50 per cent.
“We want to land at 38 per cent and then next year, we should be around 27 per cent so that in five years’ time, we would have made the utility very efficient and that will translate to generating more resources. If we are efficient it means we are generating more resources to meter customers, install transformers and extend networks,” Mupwaya said.
