30% broadband penetration feasible by 2018, says NCC boss


Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta, has said the commission is pursuing the national broadband agenda with vigour, stressing that the country is well positioned to achieve the 30 per cent penetration target by 2018.
Currently, he noted that recent report by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) placed Nigeria’s broadband penetration at 21 per cent, up from about 10 per cent about two years ago.
Danbatta who spoke through Head of Public Relations, Mr. Reuben Muoka in Lagos yesterday at the fifth anniversary conference of Waka About Africa magazine held in Lagos.
Delivering the keynote address on the topic: ‘ICT and Finance as Catalyst for Tourism and Culture in a Diversified Economy’, Danbatta stressed that increased broadband penetration would promote the culture and tourism industry.
